  Obit: Samuel Copeland was born July 9, 1837 in Henry County, Indiana and came to Minnesota in 1865 locating on a farm in Independence Township where he died November 1922, being 85 years old, 3 months and 22 days and one of the oldest settlers in the vicinity. He was married first to Lucina Ludwig of Indiana. The two children born to them died, their mother also passed away somewhere about 1881. In January 1885 Mr Copeland and Mrs Mary Cronk-Bland. Three children were born to them. Guy Copeland living at home, John Copeland, Fairbault, Minnesota, Mrs Oscar Lobitz who lives not far from the home place. Besides his wife and children he leaves two brothers, a step son Fred Bland and many other relatives and friends. Funeral was held Friday afternoon Nov 3 at home conducted by Reverend A Brebighauser of Minneapolis. A large number were i attendance and the burial was in the cemetery near his home (Bryant). Reverend Biebighauser preached from the text John 11:11 - Our friend Lazarus sleepeth but I will go that I may awake him out of his sleep.
