    • James Tulip Jr. an old resident of the town of Waterville was called to the Eternal home Saturday, March 18th. James Tulip Jr. was born in Clinton County, New York, November 7th 1845. He left New York when a boy coming with his parents to Illinois. When the civil war broke out he enlisted as a member of Co. C., 95th Illinois Infantry and served to the end of the war. Returning to his home he took up his former duties of life. In 1867 he was married to Lucretia McBride. They came soon to Pepin County, Wisc, and here to the time of the last call they made their home. Seven children were born to them, Helen Almira and James Irving, deceased; Rose, Mrs Albert Richardson; Luella, Mrs Thos Richardson; Fannie, Mrs Peter Thompson; Vida May, Mrs Forest Maxwell and Owen McGee. An only brother now resides in Durand. Mr. Tulip has spent the last years of his life, since the death of his wife, on the home farm with his son Owen and family. For two years he has been in failing health but was confined to the bed only the last four weeks. Death was due to chronic rheumatism and other complications. Mr. Tulip was school clerk of Marble district for many years. He was a member of the Beu Allen Post at Arkansaw. Honesty and industry were a part of the man and we have never heard of anyone who was not his friend. Many people assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to a loved comrade and neighbor. The services were held Monday at 10 o'clock at the home. The Rev. Braddock of Arkansaw officiating. Internment was made in Arkansaw cemetery. Obituary: "The Pepin County Courier" March 24, 1911.
